My time at Arrowmont

Wayyy back in January 2020, I signed up for a pottery workshop at Arrowmont, an Art and Craft School in the Smoky Mountains, Tennessee. I was so excited for an adventure and to get to meet some new folks and see a new place. Well, we all know what unfolded that spring…so, fast forward to last week and I FINALLY got to make my trip a reality!

I stayed at Arrowmont for almost a week where I got to play with clay all day and learn from the very knowledgeable and generous Kip O’Krongly. We learned about different surface decoration techniques and experimented with all sorts of tools and materials. What a gift to get to focus on your craft and have everything else taken care of! There were a few late nights in the studio trying to make sure to finish things in time to be ready for the kilns. After a quick single firing, all of our work came out nice and toasty on Friday morning.

My visit to Tennessee coincided with the stunning fall color show of their deciduous forest. I even got to take a chilly hike into the National Park!

I had such a wonderful time at Arrowmont! I’m already thinking about when I can go back. :) They host workshops for all sorts of media - get on their email list to find out about their next offerings.
